Using Pet Friendly Accommodations

When you go on vacation and place your pet in a kennel you never know what can happen.

Nonetheless there are pet friendly accommodations that allow you to take your pet with you on vacation. Many people don’t want to think of placing their pet in a kennel while they are on vacation, rather most will take their pet with them when they go on vacation. However, even with pet friendly accommodations there are several things you need to consider.

Placing A Reservation

Even if a website says a place accepts pets it is still a good idea to ask the reservation clerk if they offer pet friendly accommodations. Make sure you indicate your breed when asking since many hotels will have restrictions on the size and breed of pets. It is also a good idea to ask about any additional costs that may be involved. Chiefly you should make sure you fully understand the hotels pet policy so that there is no misunderstanding later on down the line.

Prepare Your Pet

Once you have your pet friendly accommodations in order you should start packing the necessary items for your pet. Pack for you pet just as you would for yourself, make sure you have your medications and vitamins. Have a veterinary phone number on hand at all times in case an emergency comes up and be sure to have your pets favorite toys and food so they can enjoy their vacation as well.

Just as you wouldn’t leave home without your identification, make sure you remember to bring your pets identification as well. It is best to have a pet tag that includes the pets name, contact number and if necessary an immunization tag. Make sure you never let your pet out of your site the whole time you are on vacation. Just tying up the pet outside for a short time can result in your pet getting stolen or other incidents occurring.

In addition to pet friendly accommodations you should make sure you research the location and places nearby. Just like yourself, your pets need things to do while on vacation. You don’t want to drive miles just to take your pet to a location that allows them.

So make sure there are pet friendly beaches or other activity areas located nearby where you pets can exercise and stretch for awhile. This way you can also spend some time outdoors and stretch for awhile.
