The Best Pet Friendly Beaches

Pets enjoy the beach just as much as humans, although pet friendly beaches are become hard to find due to owners ignoring leash laws and other common courtesies. Although there are still some pet friendly beaches where owners and pets alike can play together and enjoy a day out at the beach.

There are ten primary pet friendly beaches where you can let loose with you pet as long as you stick to the common etiquette rules such as poop scooping.

The Best Spots

The first of the pet friendly beaches is Cape San Blas, Florida. Located just 35 miles south of Panama City, the best gives you a feeling of being far away from everything. It is a peaceful beach that isn’t yet overdeveloped and you can often take a mile or two walk without seeing anyone else in the area.

Dog Beach, California is number two which is probably the best known dog beach. This is the place to go if your dog gets along with others since they will have plenty of company. In fact, this beach spot near San Diego, may have more dogs than people on certain days.

The third option is St. George Island, Florida. This is a small beach, only growing to a mile at its widest point and placed near the many historic towns that fill the Florida Gulf. This beach has plenty to offer both dogs and humans as well.

The fourth beach takes you back to California with Carmel City Beach. This is located near the village of Carmel and it is a beautiful and popular escape options with hotels and restaurants within easy walking distance if you are traveling with your pet. In addition, you can find other pet friendly beaches nearby so you won’t have any shortage of activities.

Moving away from Florida and California, the next option is Hunting Island, South Carolina which can be up to a mile wide at low tide along with tidal pools and remote stretches that you don’t find a lot today. It is a state park that is located near Beaufort, South Carolina and also has a excellent nearby golf resort for the humans.

Next is Dog Island, Florida and it takes a bit of effort to get to, but it is well worth the effort provided you or your pet doesn’t get seasick. This island is about fifty miles east of Panama City in the Florida Panhandle and can only be accessed by boat, ferry or airplane.

The seventh of the pet friendly beaches returns you to Florida with the Grayton Beach State Recreation Area. This is a wonderful four hundred acre oceanfront park that has been named one of the best beaches in the United States. You can find it between Destin and Seaside, Florida.

Next in the list is Oregon with the Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint. This beach is just outside of Oregon State Park boundaries and south of Gold Beach. There is excellent activities for dogs as well as windsurfing for humans.

Number nine in the list of pet friendly beaches takes you to Georgia with Jekyll Island. This is a beach area that is recognized by beach going individuals throughout the country and being able to bring you dog adds to the appeal for many people.

The last of the pet friendly beaches is the Ft. Fisher State Recreation Area in North Carolina. This beach allows dogs everywhere except those areas that have lifeguards and are reserved for swimming.
